Yorkshire Terriers Training

Toy dog breeds are always the most delicate and refined ones. They require a lot of attention, but they should be trained just as any other dog breed should because they can get to be quite stubborn and even destructive if they are not taught to respect your orders and to not behave improperly. Even though most of the training that these dogs might need won’t have anything to do with the training a Rottweiler or a Doberman should receive, they still need to learn how to behave.

Yorkshire Terriers are extremely loving and affectionate dogs that follow their owners wherever they go and that are always ready to receive love, as well as to give it back. In terms of their temperament, these dogs are considered to be quite demanding since they don’t enjoy being left alone and this is something you could use in your benefit when training your Yorkshire Terrier. They can also get to be possessive and stubborn but this could mean that they will only listen to your orders and that will always try to please you.

Some of the most important things you need to teach your Yorkshire Terrier is to respect certain house rules. In the first place, schedules and hours should be firmly marked in order to make him understand that there is a right time to eat, a right time to sleep and a right time to play. This will not only assure you a trained and respectful dog, but it will also provide him with an ordered life. In this sense, you have to teach your Yorkshire Terrier since he is a puppy when to perform each activity, but also where to do it.

Providing your Yorkshire Terrier with elements that belong exclusively to him will also give you the possibility to get him used to eat, sleep, evacuate or play in certain places like his own dog bed, his own dog bowl or with his own toys. Yorkshire Terriers are very intelligent dogs that will easily learn to respond in the way you want them to, but this does not mean you won’t have to make a time investment for the training process to have good results: patience and commitment are always good companions.

Finally, remember that these dogs are also quite playful and that they love to spend time playing with you, whether that might be outdoors or indoors. You should provide them with a daily dose of exercise in which you could also teach them special tricks and reactions to your orders. We can assure you that this is definitely the best way to enjoy a training process: if both of you have fun through it, so please enjoy it and learn to love your Yorkshire Terrier from day one!
