Tiny Breed

If you think of small cute dogs, the first breed that will surely come to your mind is the Yorkshire Terrier.

These tiny and hairy dogs are absolutely glamorous and we are used to seeing them in the arms of Hollywood celebrities and famous people. They have a strong personality so if you want a determined and interesting dog but you don’t want to lose space at home then you definitely need to go for a Yorkshire Terrier. They will cheer your day up and you will be relaxed since their independence will allow you to mind your own business. If all of this sounded interesting to you must keep on reading this article and find the most important information you need to know about them.

The Yorkshire Terrier history is not something quite clear, but it is highly believed that these dogs were bred in England, in the homonymous area, after immigrant industrial workers from Scotland and Wales brought their own dogs with them. This combination of dogs made the birth of the Yorkshire Terrier possible and me must counter among his ancestors breeds such as the Maltese, Clydesdale Terrier and many others. They were first bred to prevent rat’s invasions around the industrial and urban zones. This breed is quite young in comparison to others that exist from up to ten centuries ago. They evolved with time into more stylized and delicate specimens which are now directly related to show business and fashion. The original dogs were bigger than the actual ones, who have been miniaturized.

Yorkies have a head that holds high in comparison to the rest of the body. This head is somewhat flat and rounded, with a very soft stop. The eyes are medium sized and dark, sparkling, with a noticeable dark rim and all of this gives the animal an alert and self-confident expression. Ears are absolutely adorable and small; they are v-shaped and erect or semi-erect on the top of the head. The tail is short and is erected higher than the rest of the body. The Yorkshire’s coat is one of a kind: it is long and covers the entire body of the dog, making necessary to be put up by a bow in the face to allow him to see. This coat is super silky and shiny, and should be of colors such as tan, black or blue.

The height of these dogs must be between 6 and 7 inches and they should not weight under 7 pounds. The Yorkshire Terrier ’s health is quite delicate since they can suffer from digestion problems, bronchitis, herniated disks and other spine issues, fragile bones, weak teeth and some bitches can even have trouble delivering. They are also better suited for warm climates.
