White Boxer Dog Information

dog information header

A mixture of the old Mastiff and the English bulldog, Boxers are a breed of dogs that have become particularly famous for their appearance and different uses.

Their German ancestors made the breed of hunting dogs that has been developed through the centuries. Specially used for the hunting of bears, boars and deers, they used to surround the pray and grab up to their owners arrived. By the end of the 19th century, the breed was presented in different parts of Europe and in the United States. The breed was recognized as such around the year 1915 by the AKC (American Kennel Club).

Its name is supposed to derive from the particular position these animals took when fighting. They get up on their feet and “boxed” with its fronts paws. Quite an unusual posture for a canine.

The adult boxer or white boxer weighs around 70 lbs. at the most, the female is no higher than 23 inches and the male no taller than 25 inches. The tail is usually docked and the ears used to be cropped, although now it is not much used. For the dog to be accepted as standard the tail must be cropped but the ear requirement is not compulsory.

The main coat is white and it may have some black spots on it. White Boxers are not considered albino, they are just white. They have some health problems with the sun, however, and specially with sunburns. Cancer is a very delicate issue among them. Congenital deafness is also a particular problem among the dogs of the breed since it is something caused due to the lack of pigment. Hip dysplasia and intestinal problems may also appear with the passing of time. The general attitude of the breeders is to test the dog before the sprouts are born to see if these health problems can be cured and avoided in the future. Allergies are also very important for this breed, so keeping a clean house is a must in the case of boxers.

The thing is that boxers are terribly loyal and protective of their masters. This may be mistaken for aggressiveness in the case of attacks or assaults. They are extremely intelligent, determined but as mentioned before they are not trustful at all.

Because of these particular characteristics, boxers need to be properly socialized. Training is a must, a professional should take care of this, and the sociability issue is a requirement specially if you are considering it for the family. They are great companions and they like children, and they have no problems in living with other animals.
