The Whippet is a medium size breed of dog that has rose-like Ears which fold back gracefully when the Whippet is relaxed and often stand up semi perked when the Whippet is alert. The Ears are one of the main features of the Whippet and are very distinctive.
Whippet Ears are not that big and tend to bend slightly over towards the front. When owning a Whippet, it must be noted that they require very little grooming because of their short coat but are the average shedder type. When grooming is done, it is always important to make sure that no hair is resting in the Ears causing discomfort towards the Whippet. The hair should be cut around the ear so that it does not grow inwards towards the Ears.
Furthermore, with the Whippet's Ears being fairly open, they can become sore rather easily. If this is noticed, owners should take the Whippet to the vets as this can often be the start of an ear infection and treating it at this early stage will keep pain towards the Whippet at a minimal.
