Whilst in the UK it has become an offence to own or breed the Staffordshire Bull Terrier's cousin, the Pit Bull Terrier, due to attacks on young children, Staffordshire Bull Terriers are at the other end of the spectrum completely. Nicknamed the 'Nanny Dog', the Staffordshire Bull Terriers have an extremely pleasant and adorable loving nature towards children and will do all they can to protect children when and where necessary.
Staffordshire Bull Terriers were originally bred for fighting and contact sports and this was continued until it became abolished in the early 1800's. As these sports generally happened in the lower classes, the Staffordshire Bull Terriers weren't fed fantastically and therefore their breed developed an extremely tolerable stomach and indigestion system. Even to this day, they have an unfussy appetitive and a love for most Food. As long as their weight is maintained at a healthy level (between 24 and 37 pounds depending upon the sex of the dog), most types of dog Food and good quality meats should make for an appropriate diet.
Extremely loving and caring towards family, mixed with their unfussy dietary requirements, Staffordshire Bull Terriers make for the ideal pet at home.
