There are many specific Staffordshire Bull Terrier Adoption centres all over the world, employing staff that are trained in caring solely for Staffordshire Bull Terriers. Unfortunately, these Adoption centres are often brimming with Staffordshire Bull Terriers due the unruly temperament the breed has portrayed as having.
As a dog with a medium and stocky frame, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was originally bred almost purely for fighting. Their distinctive muscular body shows how powerful the dog was and still is today this day. As dog fighting has been outlawed for many years in the Western world, most Staffordshire Bull Terriers use their power and energy for competition purposes only. However, there are some Staffordshire Bull Terriers who still have strong links to their original breed and occasionally their fighting instinct is apparent. In some cases, these dogs have been known to bite and damage other dogs as well as humans.
Fortunately, these cases are extremely rare and Staffordshire Bull Terriers are generally extremely loving dogs, especially to children and are often nicknamed the 'Nanny Dog'. However, due to some isolated cases, many people believe that their Staffordshire Bull Terrier, regardless of their history, has a chance of becoming aggressive and therefore put them up for Adoption. Similarly, whilst some people can see that not all Staffordshire Bull Terriers have an aggressive nature, many people follow the negative image that has been portrayed by a handful of remote incidents and refuse to adopt a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
