The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Life Expectancy is, on average, between 12 and 15 years. Whilst they are usually a long living breed, like many other dogs, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers are known to suffer from a variety of health problems.
There are two common health problems that the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is prone to. The first, Protein Losing Nephropathy (PLN), is a disease where the dog's kidneys fail to regulate the amount of protein both coming in and leaving the kidneys.
The second primary health problem the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is known to suffer from is Protein Losing Enteropathy (PLE). Similar to PLN, PLE is a disease in which the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier loses to much protein from their intestine.
Unfortunately, both of these diseases can be fatal if not treated and it is therefore recommended that a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is put through a rigorous health screening by a qualified Vet once a year. Whilst it may seem overcautious to some, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier will be given a much greater chance of surviving PLN or PLE if it is diagnosed when in the early stages of the disease.
