Dog Names

When you think about buying a small dog, naming him is one of the essential things you have to bear in mind. Apart from the reasons why you want to have a dog at home, there are some other issues to consider before making up your mind.

Naming your dog may seem rather simple but it is not. It is one of the things that will define how your dog will be seen by other people. Of course there are some tips that will help you when deciding on one:

First of all, consider the size of the dog. Naming a Chihuahua Alexander the Great may sound a bit too far fetched.

Take into consideration what you want, if you want a descriptive name, that is to say a name that represents your dog physically. For example Rufino, which means Red in Latin, is ideal for a reddish small dog.

If you want a name that reflects the characteristics of the sex of your dog a name like Chrisy for a little female would sound good or Napoleon for a male would be superb. Remember Napoleon was rather short!

Fantastic names such as Goblin, Gonzo, Gorky and Sambo may be for funny, active dogs which are non stoppable.

Saucy , Sacmper or Timon for quick and courageous little breeds. And why not Goliath? If what you want is a little sarcasm or irony for your little friend.

Homer, as the cartoon character from The Simpsons, may be great for those lazy fellows who do not want to do much.

Issac, as the great Newton, for intelligent, smart dogs. And why not Xanadu, which resembles or at least sounds like one of the members from those heroic crusades or epic stories we read when we were little.

There are some German Names that might be good to refer to your dog’s physical features such as Albert (meaning bright), Chloris (meaning pale), Dagobert (meaning shining), Kasch (meaning black), Norbert and its female form Norberta (meaning blond) or Roth (meaning red-haired).
