The Rottweiler was originally bred in during the Roman Empire. The Rotweiler, ups!, sorry, The RoTTweiler traveled with the Roman legions as cattler herders and for protection. Many of the breed were left behind in the German town of Rottweil , which was an outpost along the trading route. They were considered a working dog as they pulled carts, protected cattle, drove cattle to markets, and even carried money. There role today is not all that different in that they work security and herd cattle.

By the 1900's the breed almost became extinct with only one remaining female dog left in the the town of Rottweil, but as World War I was buliding up there was a huge demand for police dogs and the breed regained its popularuty. It had all the traits of a great military dog in that it was intelligent, strong and eager to take orders.

A well trained Rottweiler can be a great companion for their owner. They are quick learners and eager to please their owners.

Rottie generally is a calm breed. Generally is very excited when play. The Rottweiler is considered to be a dominant dog and can be aggressive in contact with other dogs or foreign surroundings. This is not a breed for an unfamiliar trainer and it is important to socialize Rottweilers at an early age.

The Rottweiler is not considered a barker. He watches and notices everything and there is very little warning before he will attack. This has led people to perceive the breed as unpredictable. An owner who is familiar with the dog can usually notice this and step in to downplay the situation.

Rottweilers grow to between 22-27” and usually weigh around 120 lbs. Rottweilers are a picture of pure strength. They have very large heads and are built kind of like a block. Their ears are tight to their heads.The coat is quite short and dense.
