A breed of a somewhat balanced nature, the main Rhodesian Ridgeback Characteristic is the dog's physical build and their unusual coat.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a large, heavily muscled dog that is natural in appearance and has one unusual Characteristic which is the ridge of stiff looking hair along the centre of its back. The Rhodesian Ridgeback breed has a normally short coat, which is easy to groom and care for.
Thriving on exercise as well as athletic training activities, the Rhodesian Ridgeback is a dog that reacts well to obedience training. Furthermore, as the breed is a very protective one, primarily of its owner and family, obedience training must be carried out from a young age to ensure no unnecessary hostility is caused towards unimposing strangers.
Whilst there are many positive Rhodesian Ridgeback Characteristics, those contemplating owning a Rhodesian Ridgeback should also look into negatives of the breed. The Rhodesian Ridgeback has a large, hunting and chasing instinct towards other animals which can cause a problem if sharing a house with other pets. Furthermore, the breed can shed a vast amount of its coat, making it unsuitable for owners with allergies towards dog hair.
