Pomeranian Temperament

There are several few key points to consider regarding Pomeranian Temperament before taking a Pomeranian into a home. An extremely intelligent dog, they are eager to learn and are very loyal to their owner and the family that they live with.

As one of the most independent of the toy dog breeds, Pomeranians do not follow to their owner around on a constant basis and to an inexperienced owner can be considered an unsociable and rude dog.

Proud and content dogs when with their loved ones, they are more than happy to spend the day alone whilst their owner is at work.

For all of the breed's positive qualities, Pomeranians also possess a selection of negative characteristics. The most notable being their inability to feel comfortable with their position in the family. If a Pomeranian feels another household pet receives more attention and is considered 'Head of the House', they will contemplate attacking the pet, regardless of their size. Furthermore, as independent dogs, Pomeranians can be disobedient if not trained correctly and therefore a firm hand, with no signs of nervousness, is required to train a Pomeranian effectively.
