Police Academy films are well known to anyone of us and this is due to the high success they had and to the numerous sequels there were. Police Academy was a crazy comedy about equally crazy cops in absurd situations. The Police Academy series of films is composed by seven different episodes that were released in theaters from 1984 to 1994, the year in which the last one aired. The story that these movies told the audiences lied on a hilarious plot: every recruit had to be accepted in the institution and that is where the madness and craziness begins since a group of police officer will try to desperately prove their abilities to fulfill that task, whatever it may take to do it.
The most successful of all these movies was definitely number one, named Police Academy which gained 80 million dollars alone, while the remaining six could not duplicate that number. Each movie had a different plot from the previous one, although some characters and situations were maintained. All plots deal with the matter of how will recruits does in their training and with absurd situations that will come up as they do so.
The movies were the following: Police Academy, Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment, Police Academy 3: Back in Training, Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol, Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach, Police Academy 6: City Under Siege and Police Academy 7: Mission to Moscow. There have been attempts to release the eighth one in the year of 2007 but this movie has been recently cancelled.
Police Academy characters have been taken to TV as a comedy and as animated cartoons that were aired for two years. These crazy movies have definitely become one of America’s trademarks when it comes to easy and cheap humor. It is evident that the sequels declined in quality and ended up becoming repetitive, but there is no doubt that Police Academy has made a lot of people laugh and still can since reruns are done every day to the fortune of those who love these movies.
