The Pekingese is one of the most traditional and famous small dog breeds. Learning all about the Pekingese is always a fabulous thing to do. These adorable creatures are native from China, were there were bred for thousands of years as marvelous and god sent companions. The Pekingese belongs to the herding group since it was normally used as a cattle herder. It wasn't until the end of the nineteenth century that this breed became known in Europe and America.

The Pekingese is a small sized dog with short legs, a square shaped body and a flat face which may sometimes imply respiratory problems. The coat of the Pekingese is abundant and in some parts of the body it falls with grace and elegance. It is soft to the touch and it can be available in many different color combinations. The eyes of the Pekingese are large and dark, always truly expressive.

The temperament of the Pekingese is quite brave, intelligent and corageous. They are fabulous companions and can get along really well with children although they will be suspicious of strangers and of other animals. These dogs can become loud barkers if not properly trained. They have a life expectancy of around ten to fifteen years.
