Funny Dog

The name Papillon comes from French, and it means butterfly, that is what their ears look like if you pay close attention to him. It is believed to be one of the oldest toy breeds.

For its history there are many different versions. Most people consider it to have originated in continental Europe, French courts specifically. Marie Antoinette and Madame de Pompadour are among its many famous owners.

Their appearance, as mentioned before, is quite striking. Their coat is rich, it is shorter on the head area and copious around the chest. For a Papillon to be considered original, the tail should be like a feather with long hair. Their coats are generally white with some colored sections. As any colors are permitted to make the breed original, you must consider the color to cover both eyes in order to identify a unique species.

It is considered to have the temperament of any big dog. Therefore, they are not considered spoilt, and they are not kind of frenetic as many other small breeds are. They do not get tired easily, they are flexible to all types of weather and they do not suffer greatly from extreme temperatures.

As regards use, these dogs have become increasingly famous in the dog agility tests. This consists of an obstacle path with tunnels, jumps and narrow bridges the dog has to complete at top speed an guided by a handler. As this breed is considered one of the most agile, they exceed any expectations when trained accordingly.

As they are small, this is an important advantage over bigger dogs, and their natural nimbleness makes them unique at this type of sport.

They need to socialize and continuant training to keep fit. Interaction with human beings is almost of the outmost importance.

Although fairly healthy, this breed may suffer from some distinctive diseases. A congenital heart defect called Mitral valve dysplasia, luxating patella, and one of the most serious, progressive retinal atrophy. In order to prevent the diseases that can be taken care of, they needs to be taken to the vet on a regular basis.
