Known to breeders and experts of the breed as the 'Butterfly' dog, Papillions are a beautiful and elegant breed of French dog, most noted for their long ears. Due to these features, the most popular Papillion Accessories are those that aid with the care and grooming maintenance of the breed's ears.
Papillion ears are generally very long and spray out from the side of the dog's head. Considered to be well fringed, the ears - if the dog is for show purposes - should not be white, but can be any other colour. With a silky feel to them, colouring should fall forward onto the eyes, giving the Papillon a distinctive 'butterfly' appearance. To maintain these wonderful features of the Papillon, they should be cleaned thoroughly on a regular basis, using a damp cloth and blow dried with a specific dog hair dryer.
A very easy dog to care for in terms of grooming, Papillon's are said to be a 'wash and wear' breed. Their single coat, consisting of masses of silk- like fine fur, which is as beautiful to touch as it is to look at, does not shed in massive amounts, and a regular grooming routine, with a soft, short bristled brush will generally suffice the grooming requirements of a Papillon.
