The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is breed of dog that was bred originally in a small river district of Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, at the beginning of the 20th century. Whilst the exact origins of the breed are not exactly known, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Breeding is said to have been originally developed through Cocker Spaniel, Golden Retriever and Irish Setter inter-Breeding.
When Breeding for show purposes, the colour of the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever can be any shade of red, from an extremely dark shade to an almost golden colour. Furthermore, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers should have noticeable lighter featherings on the underside of the tails and body, with most generally having at least one unique marking on their body.
As a highly intelligent dog, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever was initially bred to assist hunters retrieve their prey. Sitting in deep water, they would move after a few moments to scare the birds, allowing the hunter to shoot them as they attempted to fly away. The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever would then retrieve one of the birds and swim back to the shore to present the hunter with their prey.
