Neapolitan Mastiffs Information

In the Mastiff group, the Neapolitan Mastiff is certainly one of the most popular breeds. However, this breed does not count with recognition from the AKC although most important dog associations accept it. The history of these dogs includes elements from different regions such as Tibet, Greece, India, Asia and Rome, where it ultimately acquired its current features. This powerful dog has always been used as a loyal and devoted protector as well as a fantastic helper in many different tasks.

The Neapolitan Mastiff usually measures from 26 to 30 inches tall and can weight up to 165 pounds of weight. This is a sturdy and strong, square shaped dog with a wide neck and short but really strong legs and feet. The massive head is covered with facial wrinkles that give the dog a funny image. The ears are small and the eyes are usually transparent and with a sad look. The wrinkles can also be present in other parts of the body. The coat is short and smooth, usually in blue and black colors.

Although the Neapolitan Mastiff is a brave and corageous animal, it can definitely become a sweet and tender companion if raised with love and respect. This animal immediately becomes attached to its family and will display a great attitude towards children and other animals, especially if raised with them since puppyhood.
