t is not easy to develop and maintain a puppets show on TV, and in this sense, there has been only one show that could actually make it and with tremendously successful results: The Muppets. The Muppet Show and the main Muppet characters were created by the puppeteer Jim Henson in 1976 after several works and programs. What audiences find in this show are the adventures and stories of a big group of puppets who are called The Muppets.

Focused on children and young kids, this show is quite similar in format to Sesame Street since it is quite naïve, intelligently displayed and developed through some basic moral values such as friendship, love, tolerance, respect and companionship.

The Muppet characters that take part in the show, the Muppets, are puppets that share some basic physical features such as a large and wide mouth and prominent eyes. They are covered in fleece giving them a nice and soft look that makes them quite adorable at sight. Traditionally, Muppets have portrayed humanoid animals but human beings have also been created as characters, as well as some other weird beings that are as adorable as any other one. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy are the most popular Muppet characters of all and their funny love affairs, that many times end up truncated, are a trademark of the show.

The Muppet show characters and the Muppet show has been historically acclaimed and has always received excellent reviews and critics. It has gained a very important place among TV shows for children and their message and educational purposes have allowed it to expand to movies, books, video games, music and lots of merchandising.
