With 2D scenarios, M.U.G.E.N. is thought to be used through 9 different playing modes which are arcade (against the computer), versus (against another player), team arcade (teams of characters against the computer), team versus (teams of characters against another player), team co-up (several characters alongside with another player against the computer), survival (endless battle), survival co-up (the same as the previous one but alongside with a partner), training mode and watch.

The game has also a variety of stages and scenarios where to play which are: Rumble in Metropolis in which Marvel confronts DC comics, Blackheart, Quartes Devil, Honda’s Dohyou, and Chinatown. However, remember that stages can also be created by users and add elements from outside the video game, making every M.U.G.E.N. out there completely unique and different to the others. Players can even bring characters from other video games and give them their own personalized features, adding some or taking away the ones that they don’t like.

It is believed that M.U.G.E.N. has not been entirely licensed when created and many video game users think that this game does not exist anymore, but reality is that the product can be downloaded in the internet and that the M.U.G.E.N. fan community is growing more and more with time.
