Pixar is currently one of the best computer animation studios in Hollywood and all of this company’s productions have been among the most successful movies in the years in which they were released. Toy Story and Toy Story 2, A Bug’s Life, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars and Monsters, Inc. are the films produced by this studio and the one we mention last is to which we are going to talk in this article. Come with us and learn all about Monsters, Inc.! This fantastic movie was released in 2001 and has become one of the most important animated movies of the last years. As it is usual in any children movie, the story is set in a fantasy world that has many ironic and funny references to the real world. In this case, all the action develops in Monstropolis, a city where all the monsters live and that is an alternative world to the one in which humans live. Monsters are to be founded in a huge variety of forms, shapes, colors and sizes, but their world is quite similar to ours and they fulfill jobs just like anyone of us. The only problems in this fantasy world are human children, to whom monsters are devoted to frighten but who actually the ones that totally scare monsters out are. The protagonists of this story work in a factory specially devoted to that task, fulfilled through the utilization of magical doors that allow monsters to enter the human world and frighten them. It is there where all the conflicts begin to happen when a human little girl follow the main characters of the story back to Monstropolis and unleash therefore a serious of problems and complications that these two main monsters need to solve. Also, they have to hide from the evil monster that wants to hurt the little girl and that is no friend of Sulley and Mike, the main characters. The voices of many popular and successful Hollywood actors were used in this movie and among them we can count John Goodman, Billy Crystal, Steve Buscemi, James Coburn and Jennifer Tilly. Perhaps the most interesting thing is that to make the voice of the little girl, no actor was used and instead producers followed Mary Gibbs, the daughter of the writer Rob Gibb, wherever she went, recording her sounds and then using them in the movie. As usual in any children story, this wonderful movie has a message of friendship, amusement and happiness. This message is discovered through the story as the audience see how the monsters, at first scared and suspicious of the little girl, learn how to cope with those feelings and finally understand that laughter and fun is a sensation much more interesting and valuable that fear. The movie is among the most successful and popular animated movies of all times, and this popularity has allowed it to expand to other spaces such as TV shows, video games and lots of merchandising.
