Learning about the specific elements of each dog breed is always an important thing to do, especially if we are about to get one of these dogs and know nothing about it. In the case of the Miniature Pinscher, discovering a bit about its history is always recommended since many people tend to confuse this dog with the Doberman and with other similar dog breeds, believing that they have therefore the same needs and requirements. The Miniature Pinscher history is certainly unique and worth enjoying on its own.
Although many believe that the Miniature Pinscher is a smaller type of Doberman, the truth tells us that these dogs are not clearly related although their ancestors may have been similar. The Miniature Pinscher is native from Germany where it was originally bred as a Terrier and hunting dog which was meant to protect the farms and fields of farmers from the presence of wild animals, specially rats and racoons. Although the exact origins of this breed are not entirely clear, registries do not take further than two hundred years ago.
It wasn't until the beginning of the twentieth century that this breed became popular in America and other parts besides Germany. It immediately gained recognition for its hard working abilities, its lively attitude and its loyalty towards the ones recognized as their masters. It was registered for the first time in the AKC in the year of 1925.
