Although there are often some different shades of their coat, there are not several Manchester Terrier Colors. If breeding for show purposes, the only color a Manchester Terrier is allowed to be is their original black and tan color.
There is generally little variation with Colors and the Manchester Terriers must be black with a rich, mahogany tan color intertwined.
The wonderful tan markings for the Manchester Terrier should be found above both eyes in a small circle of hair, on each cheek and across the entire muzzle area of the dog. Furthermore, they should be noticeable under the neck (forming a v shape), with a small amount in the dog's outer ear and several areas of tan should be visible above the top part of the Manchester Terrier's front legs, back legs and on the underside of the tail. The remaining area of the Manchester Terrier should be completely black.
The unique Colors and pattern of the Manchester Terrier make it very easy to tell whether it is a purebred Manchester Terrier and not a crossbred Terrier, which many believe to be the same and attempt to show, unsuccessfully, as a true Manchester Terrier.
