Tiny Breed

Did you write Maltese or Maltesse? Ok, as you know the correct name is Maltese with one "S".

If you are looking for a dog that can be a good companion but you don’t have too much space at home to have a large dog, or if you are willing to get a stylized and super refined dog, then you have to go for a Maltese. This dog breed is ideal for such situations since it is one of the most beautiful and gentle ones. You won’t find too much trouble in having him in a small apartment because of its small size and its quiet but firm temperament. Let’s see what else this interesting breed has to offer to you.

The history behind the Maltese breed is somewhat unclear but still deeply attractive. It is believed that the ancestors of the actual Maltese dogs existed in Asia and in the Middle East around 6000 of the ancient era, reaching later on the European geography.

These first specimens were bred for working activities. The breed evolved and we may find sources that mention it in different times and spaces. In the seventeenth century and on these dogs became very popular among aristocracies due to their unique beauty and style, fulfilling exclusively the role of companion to high class women and children.

This coat covers up the complete body of the animal and should be silky, smooth and purely white. No other colors are accepted as original. The Maltese have not an undercoat as many other breeds may have.

The ears fall to the sides of the head and are totally covered by hair as well. The eyes are close together, dark and round and the nose is black. A typical Maltese should weight no more than 10 pounds and the height should be between 9 to 10 inches.

The body is compact but still elegant. In terms of health issues, we might say that this breed is quite healthy and there are no many important problems, even though you would need to take care of his personal hygiene (regular hair grooming, eyes cleaning, etc.). There may appear diseases like luxating patella, respiratory, ocular or liver problems but none of these are serious.

The only thing you need to do is give them all your love, patience and care and they will be deeply thankful and companion. Give them a try!
