Just like it happens with every toy dog breed, it is always important for you to know the peculiarities of this breed before actually getting one specimen. This way you will be able to provide your loving friend with a great life and also make of its company a wonderful experience. The Lhasa Apso is definitely worth discovering so we recommend you to keep on reading this article and find it all out about this fabulous breed.

The unusual name of this breed already gives us the impression that its origins are not related to usual places. This dog breed is believed to come from the Tibet region, more specifically from the city of Lhasa, where it existed for thousands of years before becoming popular on the West. It was regularly considered a sacred dog and only nobles and rich people had access to it until it was brought to Europe and America where it became a loved and much more accesible dog. This occurred near the beginning of the twentieth century. This breed counts with the proper recognition of the AKC, the FCI, the CKC, the UKC, the KCGB and many others.

The Lhasa Apso is a small dog breed which usually measures between ten and eleven inches tall and weights thirteen to fifteen pounds. Bitches usually weight a bit less. One of the elements that stands out when it comes to this dog's appearance is its silky, soft and shiny coat. This coat covers the entire body of the animal and reaches to the floor making it hard for us to see the dog's feet. Usually, this coat is found in colors such as cream, white, golden, beige, brown and even black although these two last colors never as solid colors.

As most toy dogs, the Lhasa Apso is a perfect dog for an apartment. They do not require too much space or too much exercise other than regular inside the house and this is why this dog is always among the most popular company dogs. They are also really healthy and their life expectancy is around fifteen years and even more. Remember that it is always very important for you to provide your Lhasa Apso with a daily walk not only to keep it slim but also to maintain its mental health and spirit in good conditions.

The temperament of the Lhasa Apso is typical of most toy dogs as well. We are talking here about truly loving and affectionate dogs that immediately become really attached to their owners. They enjoy human company and are fabulous and obedient companions themselves. Sometimes, the Lhasa Apso can become suspicious of children or of other pets if they haven't been properly socialized with them as puppies. They require constant and firm leadership because since they are really intelligent dogs, they may get confused with roles. Being left alone or abandoned for too long almost always means immediate develop of aggressive and destructive behaviors.
