As most dog breeds coming from Asia, the Lhasa Apso shows an overall excellent Health system that provides it with a truly extended life expectancy never below fifteen years. While many European dog breeds luckily reach ten or twelve years, this Asian breed can sometimes reach up to twenty years due to its marvelous Health.
However, this does not mean that the Lhasa Apso can never get sick or present some Health complications. Of course, each dog breed has tendencies to certain specific Health related issues and in the case of the Lhasa Apso they are never too serious but are definitely there. Some of the most traditional problems these dogs may show are skin complications of different kinds. Most of these complications have to do with allergies caused by a poor hair condition or by the presence of flea and ticks. The Lhasa Apso can also suffer from hip dysplasia but this can be prevented if early treated or checked with the doctor. Eye problems are also sometimes present and in many occasions they are related to the abundant hair near the eyes. Finally, digestive problems related to the kidney or to ulceras should be prevented and treated as soon as possible.
