The Leonberger is a majestic dog that features a large and muscular body, requiring therefore a complete and diversified Diet that includes a good number of healthy and natural aliments. The Leonberger is not an extremely active dog so its Diet won't need to provide it with too much energy or protein as it happens with some other dog breeds. However, this breed still requires a good amount of protein since they are large dogs that have to be properly fed in order to develop strong bones and muscles. Since they are hard working dogs, they will have to count with a strong body that can allow them to achieve the best results.
The Leonberger should receive a Diet consisting on a large part of high quality meat and bone. The rest of the Diet should be completed with a variety of vegetables and some fruits. Aliments such as milk, chocolate, certain nuts and corn or wheat should never be included in the Diet since they are not easily processed by these dogs and can eventually lead to digestive complications. Plus, they are not entirely healthy for dogs and there is no actual need to count them in. Corn and wheat is normally used to make the food cheaper so make sure that the food you choose is low on such items as well as low in fat.
