The Leonberger is a large dog which has a double Coat. The Leonberger Coat makes them adapt to cold weather easier than a lot of other breeds. Their Coats can come in a variety of lengths. A full grown Leonberger have a main like double Coat around their neck and chest which gives them a similar Coat appearance as a lion. Their Coat is significantly shorter on their muzzle and legs. A Leonberger's color comes in a golden color, reddish brown, and a variety of colors in between. They have a black mask and many will have black at the ends of their fur. However, Black is not their entire color.

The Leonberger's Coat has an undercoat which remains soft to the touch, even though it is very dense. Their double Coat, although thick, doesn't take away from the ability to see the lines of their body and their muscular shape can still be recognized.
