The origins of the Kuvasz dog are not clear. Some experts sustain that it has existed for centuries right next to humans. What is a bit more defined is the region in which it first appeared: the territories of the current Hungarian country, where it was bred as a guard, working and companion dog. They were also bred for hunting reasons and the extreme weather in which they were born is the main reason why it features such an impressive and abundant coat. Associations such as the AKC, the UKC, the FCI, the CKC and the NKC officially recognize this breed.
Of course, the appearance of this dog is peculiar and magnificent. It is a really large dog, weighting around 100 to 115 pounds and reaching up to 30 inches tall. It is a strong and muscular dog with a tucked up abdomen and a wide neck. The head is well proportioned to the rest of the body and the ears are folded over it. The eyes are round and dark and clearly stand out among the pure white of the coat. The hair is medium sized although pretty abundant. It covers the entire body of this dog and was meant to protect it from the cold weathers. This dog features an average of ten to twelve years of lifespan.
