If you are thinking about purchasing a Komondor, or already own one; you will want to educate yourself on any Komondor Health concerns that may affect the Health of a Komondor. The Komondor is a large breed dog and as with many large breed dog's hip dysplasia is a major Health concern to the breed. Hip dysplasia is caused by the hips being formed in an abnormal manner; this can cause lameness in the dog and even lead to arthritis.
Other Komondor Health concerns are; possible skin allergies, problems with their ears, and suffering from bloat. Their low hanging ears that are surrounded by hair may be one of the leading causes for the breed to be prone to ear problems. Bloat is a condition which can affect any dog, although it can be seen slightly more than normal in the Komondor; this may be due to the fact that the Komondor has such a deep chest.
If you are the owner of a Komondor, you will want to keep up with their immunizations and veterinarian checkups. If your Komondor shows signs of irritated skin, shakes its head a lot, or shows signs of being in pain, or has trouble eating; you will want to take your dog in for an exam.
