There are many ways in which we can learn about dog breeds and one of them is choosing a nationality and seeing what dog breeds can be categorized in it. Today we are going to talk about Italian dogs.

There are not many breeds that can claim to be Italian, but the few existing are definitely interesting and will surely catch your attention if you give them the chance. Italian people have the fame of having an extremely powerful character, with a good sense of optimism and interest for living life as best as it can be lived. This is obviously transmitted to Italian dogs and most probably you will such qualities in them. So, if you are looking for active, joyous and entertaining dogs, you should seriously consider an Italian dog.

One of the most famous Italian dogs is the Spinone Italiano, a breed that is believed to have been bred for the first time in times of the Renaissance, around the XVth and XVIth centuries. However, it is highly probable that the first Spinone Italianos were not as the dog we know today and that the breed evolved along time. This breed was initially used as a hunting breed and traditionally helped aristocrats in those activities, but in the present time it has gained another use and this is because today they are great companion dogs and enjoy time with families.

The Spinone is not a really popular dog, we can even say that is quite peculiar, but this is breed is definitely fantastic. The body is square and compact, with long and strong legs, ideal for running and enjoying time outdoors. These dogs have big eyes and a well developed smell sense. Their coat is quite distinctive, with a wavy look and intermediate length, covering almost the entire body of the dog. Their height is around 22 and 23 inches while their weight is located between 61 to 85 pounds. Spinone Italianos are known for their incredible intelligence, energy, hard work and loyalty. They are great with children and families. Their training will be very easy and you will surely enjoy spending time with them.

Another nice and interesting Italian dog is the Italian Greyhound. This absolutely charming dog will surely catch your eye and your heart. They are refined dogs with a slim body structure and a glowing skin and coat. They have very expressive eyes and big ears that fold in the top giving this breed a truly particular appearance. They are excellent dogs for families since they are really affectionate and loyal. As a breed developed by the Romans, it has always been used as a company breed and today that feature is quite noticeable. Their measures are around 12 to 15 inches tall and 6 to 8 pounds of weight.

Each one of these two breeds are clear exponents of Italian spirit and we are sure that they will make you and your family feel like you are running across the Italian rocks and lands. Give them a chance and you won’t be disappointed.
