The Irish Wolfhound is a very large breed of dog and has a medium length Coat. The Irish Wolfhound Coat has a grey colouring which needs regular attention to make sure that the Coat stays in perfect health and brushing everyday helps to remove any loose hair.
The Irish Wolfhound are known to become agitated if loose hair is left on top of the skin, as the dog may start to scratch causing extreme discomfort. The appropriate brushes should be used to make sure that no damage is done when grooming. Furthermore, the Irish Wolfhound Coat is of a wiry, rough and shaggy makeup, which can become tangled if not washed thoroughly. Many owners wash their Irish Wolfhound's Coat at least once a week to help keep the dog in high spirit and comfortable, as well as keeping the Coat look fresh.
If left for long periods of time, the Irish Wolfhound's Coat can become fairly long and cross over and under causing knots. Every so often it is advised to strip or trim the Coat to keep this from happening and to keep the Irish Wolfhound looking its original self and not unkempt.
