Whilst the Irish Wolfhound may be one of the biggest breeds of dogs, Irish Wolfhound Agility is renowned at being exceptional. Due to the Irish Wolfhound's fantastic ability to jump great heights and run for large distances at a high speed due to their long length and large striding ability, they are ideal when competing in a variety of Agility competitions.
Whilst a lot Irish Wolfhounds are used regularly in Agility races, in which an Irish Wolfhound will work together with their owner to manoeuvre their way around a circuit of obstacles, a lot of Irish Wolfhounds compete in Agility course competitions. When working around an Agility course, the Irish Wolfhound will be required to jump over distances of 20 inches. Whilst it may seem like a long distance, if an Irish Wolfhound is trained regularly and effectively, they have been known to jump a distance of over 24 inches. Furthermore, on an Agility course, the Irish Wolfhound will generally have to run through a winding tunnel, which can cause problems for some smaller dogs. However, due to the Irish Wolfhounds length - from their nose to the end of their tail they are almost 8 foot long - this is very rarely a problem.
