As one of the rarest dogs in the Spaniel breed, there isn't an extensive amount of information generally available on the Irish Water Spaniel. However, information such as Irish Water Spaniel Growth rates and coat details are some of the areas where greater amounts of information are known.
The Irish Water Spaniel, like most Spaniels, grows at a relatively average rate. Reaching their optimum size at around 12 months, they will stand at between 22 to 24 inches and weigh approximately 60 pounds.
The Irish Water Spaniel has a very distinctive coat. Similar to that of a Poodle, it is made up of extremely tight curls and very rarely sheds in any large amounts, making it the perfect dog for someone with allergies to dog's coats. With a small amount of regular, light grooming, the Irish Water Spaniel's coat will grow at a minimal rate and be very easy to manage.
As originally a working dog, the Irish Water Spaniel requires a large amount of space and plenty of clean, deep Water to be allowed to carry out their natural and physical instincts.
