One of the most distinctive elements of the Irish Setter is its naturally beautiful, long and shinny coat. This long haired dog is a big shedder and the usual problem with these dogs is that loose hair may easily get in the way of the regular hair, forming knots and tangling the entire coat up. The Irish Setter therefore requires quite a lot of attention in this sense in order to have a nice, silky and gorgeous coat.
The first and most important thing to do with an Irish Setter is to establish a brushing routine in which you must make the effort to take all the loose hair out of the way. This may take a while but it will keep your dog's healthy and beautiful so it is definitely worth it. This task is mandatory when the dog is on shedding season.
The Irish Setter does not require baths as much as other dog breeds do. You can do it once in a while when your dog is dirty. Plus, it is always recommendable to trim your dog's hair at least once a month in order to keep its natural length and make it stronger. With these activities your Irish Setter's Shed will be kept to a minimum.
