The Irish Setter is one of the most elegant and distinctive dog breeds. One of the elements that really adds to its distinction is its amazing color which is hardly ever seen on any other type of dog. The Irish Setter features marvelous Colors which are normally even through the entire body of the animal. These Colors are always in the red and mahogany group but the best of all is that they are truly shinny and vibrant.
The Irish Setter features a long and abundant coat which is quite delicate and soft to the touch. This hair is always in the group of the red and mahogany tones, being chestnut and brown colorations also accepted. According to the proper breed standards, the Irish Setter can never be black or gray but it is accepted for certain parts of the coat (especially behind the ears and legs) to be gray. Plus, some dogs may feature white markings on the chest although these alternative colorations sometimes disappear when the animal grows up.
As for the color of the eyes, they are usually light to dark brown and not transparent as it happens with many other dog breeds. These eyes are almond shaped and truly expressive. The nose must be brown or black as well and it usually stands out from the rest of the face.
