Great Pyrenees dogs

When it comes to finding a nice, friendly, protective and warm dog, there is a special dog that has a perfect combination of all that stuff: the Great Pyrenees dog. This white giant is one of the most elegant and smart dogs among unusual dog breeds. They are absolutely adorable and cute at the same time so if you are looking for an affectionate dog this is your type.

Since these dogs are not among the most popular of all, their history is not quite clear but it is believed that they firstly appeared in extremely cold weathers like Russia, Hungary or Switzerland since they were bred to live in the mountains. If you think about it a little while it is extremely probable that you see in these dogs medieval and even more ancient features.

This is due to their particular appearance that reminisces of those distant times. In reality, this breed’s registries can be traced back up to two thousand years BC and these dogs have always seemed to accompany human beings as herding, guarding, rescuing or even hunting dogs. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries these dogs became really popular among French aristocracy and nobility. Today they fulfill the role of excellent company and family dogs among regular pet owners.

In terms of physical appearance, one of the most distinctive features of the Great Pyrenees dog is his white, dense and heavy coat that completely covers the animal’s body. His majestic attitude and gait makes them one of the most interesting dogs ever. They have a rectangular body that appears to be strong muscled and firm. They gave a rounded head that perfectly matches the body through a densely coated neck that makes the dog look as if he was wearing a wool scarf. Eyes are almond shaped, with dark colors and ears are v-shaped and fall at the head top sides.

The nose is definitely one of the most distinctive parts since it is completely black in an outstandingly white dog. The coat is extremely resistant to harsh weather conditions and due to its dense and thick nature it protects the dog from iced or frozen climates. Some color markings like grey, tan and yellow are allowed but the most perfect color is total white. Measures for Great Pyrenees dogs are 25 to 32 inches tall and 85 to 100 pounds of weight. These dogs tend to suffer in extremely hot weathers and can present skin or hair infections and allergies if not taken care of. They can also suffer from elbow and hip dysplasia.

The Great Pyrenees is an ideal dog for families since they are extremely loyal and protective towards their masters and families. Due to their guardian abilities they may get suspicious of strangers or animals that don’t belong to the family circle. They get on excellent with children although it would be probably best if you socialize them since they are young to avoid any unexpected or aggressive reaction. They are extremely loyal and obedient, with lots of affection to give and eager to spend time playing with the ones they love. Due to their size, they are not good for apartment life. They also need regular exercise to be happy and healthy.

We are sure that you will love this breed because it has a lot to offer and does not ask for many things other than love and affection from their owners. They are just like a piece of jewelry!
