A medium maintenance dog, Gordon Setter Care and grooming should be carried out on a weekly basis, by an experienced Gordon Setter breeder or owner.
Gordon Setters require a regular, high quality amount of grooming and this is necessary to keep the dog's coat and health in the best possible condition. Grooming should consist not only of brushing the coat, but bathing the Gordon Setter as and when required and paying particular attention to the dog's eyes, teeth, ears, feet and nails. A regular routine, started from puppy age, will ensure that any potential health problems are identified and therefore treated as quickly as possible, which is especially important in puppies and older Gordon Setters.
A quality diet is paramount to Gordon Setter Care and the breed will be extremely happy if provided food that includes fresh poultry, organic potatoes and several types of wheat or corn. However, owner's must be aware that as Gordon Setters are prone to bloating, it is advisable to feed them three or four small meals each day, rather than one or two large portions of food.
