Just like its name says it, the German Shorthaired Pointer Coat features a short and somewhat harsh Coat that is meant to provide the animal with the needed protection from cold weathers without becoming an obstacle to let them fulfill its hunting and outdoor activities. This Coat covers the entire body of the animal and it is also close fitting to the shape of the dog.
It is usually available and white, brown, liver and black colors, being the white the base and the other tones usually markings or spots. While the body shows this combination of colors, the head of the animal can easily be of one solid color, normally brown or other dark colors that are the ones appearing as marks.
As you can imagine, this short Coat does not require too much grooming. Of course, brushing it and keeping it clean every once in a while is really recommendable not only to make it look shinny but to actually transform it into a strong and firm Coat. Shedding only occurs seasonally and that is the moment in which you need to pay specific attention to loose hair so no knots are formed. Trimming the Coat when too long is also recommendable but not entirely necessary.
