The Rottweiler

The Rottweiler was originated in Germany around the end of the 18th century. They were usually used as cattle drivers and guardian dogs.

This was very common in this country at that time.

Also considered as one of the many working dogs, this breed are considered standard if they are really big. As such, they need very strict and proper training, otherwise, they may turn into a hazard for the family and its guests. Consider this in mind, if you are thinking about having this dog as family companion.

They tend to be obedient, and when properly trained they are intelligent and learn really quickly. Training is not difficult in the case of these dogs, but of course a professional needs to do it.

Their coat color varies with different shades of black or dark brown. The hair tends to be rather thick and the short.

Some of the typical problems these dogs may suffer from, as with many other large dogs, is Elbow dysplasia, which is a painful development of the joints, gastric torsion, epilepsy and entropion, an eye infection. In order to prevent these diseases the best way to do so is by taking your dog regularly to the vet. Their life expectancy is from 12 to 14 years.

As many other dogs, the Rottweiler requires grooming and special cares. So as to make these dogs look their best, they need to be taken to the vet at least once a week. Brushing, combing, bathing are essential, but let’s not forget about medical treatment and nails and feet care.

If raised in houses, with a family and little kids, again not recommended, the Rottweiler need to have daily contact with the complete family in order not to attack any of the members of the family.

Several cases have been reported of this breed attacking the little kids in the family because they were not accustomed to their clumsy movements and continuous giggling.
