A beautiful dog breed that you will surely recognize but perhaps don’t even know its name is the French Bulldog. This lovely breed is quite unique and particular. French Bulldog history must be placed in England where it is thought that this breed’s ancestors were brought up. In the nineteenth century it was very popular in that country but what truly transformed it in what it is today known as the French Bulldog breed was the fact that at that time French breeders took some specimens to French soil gathering them there with other numerous breeds that gave these dogs the modern features. In France these dogs became very common among high classes as a company dog due to its petite size and uniqueness. It also fled to American land where it also became popular.

The French Bulldog is considered to be a toy breed and should weight between 19 and 28 pounds and their height must be located at 12 inches approximately.

They look like a heavy dog and have an actual dense bone structure. They have a squared and large head, dark rounded and separated eyes and black rims. The ears are known as ‘bat ears’, being broad at the bottom and round at the top. They should always be erected.

The neck is wide and the tail is straight. The French Bulldog coat is short, brilliant, smooth and soft. There is a pretty important variety of colors such as brindle, fawn, white, black, blue, seal blue (almost black), or any spotted type of color which are known as ‘tiger’ coats.

In terms of health, this breed is quite delicate. In the first place, since they have a flat head or face, respiratory problems are usual and in this way you should avoid leaving the dog in hot climates because they can suffer a heat stroke for not being able to breathe correctly.

French Bulldogs don’t have the ability to regulate corporal temperature either. They can also suffer from spinal problems, vomits (this is related to the shape of the face), palate defects, thyroids, Von Willebrand’s disease (a disease similar to hemophilia), and bitches usually need caesarian operations when giving birth.
