When we decide to take a new dog home with us, there are many things that are extremely important if we want to have a relaxed and entertained life. One important part of a dog’s life is the training process and this is because through it we, as dog owners, really get to teach him the way in which we want him to behave, but also and especially, it is the moment in which we get to bond with him and to create a profound relationship. In the first place, we would like to tell you that experts and professionals usually believe that you are the best person to train your dog since it is the way to control that the animal really sees you as the authority that has to be obeyed and followed. In this sense, you can also control that the training process is not based upon cruelty or harsh methods, but you can also build a unique relationship with your dog that no one will ever be able to destroy and that is the most beautiful part of the training. Now that that has been said, let us give you some basic and important tips on how to train your dog. To begin, a training process should always start when the dog is a puppy and this is simply because that moment of a dog’s life is when the animal is most moldable and therefore, it will be much easier for you to teach him specific behavior and reactions than if you do it when he is an adult dog. However, remember that a training process should begin when the dog is six or eight weeks older because that is the right time when the senses are almost completely developed. Another important tip to remind is to always act in a firm but patient way. Never try to push your dog to do what you want him to do. That will cause a lack of initiative in the pet, but also a sense of fear towards you. Recurring to an aggressive treatment is never recommended since violence produces more violence and therefore your dog will become an aggressive animal if you teach him violent behavior. In terms of how to respond to your dog’s reactions, it is always recommended for you to praise his achievements by giving him treats or simply by letting him know that you are fond of him with a nice stroke in the head or in the back. When your dog does not react as you want, a firm NO command should be enough for him to know that he is not acting properly. Other commands such as ‘sit’, ‘come’, ‘stay’ should also be implemented with a friendly but firm voice that lets your dog understand how serious you are about the orders you are giving him. Another training tip, remember that a quiet place with no distractions to interfere with the training process is the best idea to start it. And don’t ever forget that training your dog should be a constant and permanent activity, but this should not mean that it has to be a boring and distressful activity. On the contrary, it should be fun for both of you since this will be the right moment in which you will build up a permanent and profound relationship together. |
