In terms of their body, they are compact and similar to Cocker Spaniel when it comes to the shape of the body. They feature a long neck and a head that refines towards the nose. The ears are long, fully covered in hair and pendant while the tail is usually docked. The legs are medium sized and strong. Plus, the posterior part of the legs is covered in abundant hair that gives a nice detail to the dog. The coat is extremely soft and shiny and unlike regular Cocker Spaniels, it is normally available in solid colors. Proper grooming is required once or twice per week.
The Field Spaniel was originally bred for hunting and this is why even though nowadays it is a marvelous family companion, it still counts with genetic heritage that can transform its temperament into brave and somewhat aggressive if not properly trained. Other than that, the Field Spaniel loves human company and shows permanent affection and loyalty to its masters. They get along well with other animals and will feel the need to protect children. Sometimes, if not firmly trained, they can get to be stubborn dogs.
