The English Cocker Spaniel is a breed of gun dog. Much loved around the world, due to the Spaniel's continuous small wagging tail and happy disposition, it has been given the nickname of 'merry Cocker'.
The main appearance feature of English Cocker Spaniels are their dark eyes and lobular ears, which generally reaching the tip of their noses.
Whilst there isn't a great difference between an English Cocker Spaniel 's height (males stand between 15 to 17 inches and females between 15 to 16 inches), their weight is one factor that can vary. Depending upon their sex, an English Cocker Spaniel can weigh between 27 pounds and 34 pounds. English Cocker Spaniels are mostly used today as a family dog, although some owners still use their English Cocker Spaniel as their originally bred purpose as a gun dog. If an English Cocker Spaniel is used as a gun dog, it is preferred that the dog has white in its coat to make them more visible to the gunners.
Colours of an English Cocker Spaniel vary quite considerably, from tan and chocolate to a coat with red and gold as prominent colours. In research carried out over several years, it has become clear that darker coloured English Cocker Spaniels are more likely to suffer from the canine Rage Syndrome than lighter coloured English Cocker Spaniels.
