DOG UP: Which dog breed do you breed?

DAYNAKIN: Great Danes

DOG UP: What is the name of your kennel?

Daynakin Great Danes

DOG UP: How long have you been breeding Great Danes dogs?

DAYNAKIN: 1976

DOG UP: Why did you choose to breed Great Danes dogs?

DAYNAKIN: I have always loved big dogs, and wanted a short-haired breed.

DOG UP: How many dogs are in your kennel?

DAYNAKIN: Since our Danes are housedogs, we do not keep a large number.  We generally have between 2-4 adults.

DOG UP: Do you or did you take part of any sports or competition with your dogs? (Shows, agility, herding, hunting, obedience, Frisbee, flyball, field trials, etc)

DAYNAKIN: We show extensively in American Kennel Club and Canadian Kennel Club conformation shows.  Dogs of our breeding compete in obedience, rally, agility, flyball and other performance events.  Dogs of our breeding have also been certified therapy dogs, movie stars, and of course, much-loved companions.

DOG UP: What is your puppy availability? /
• Throughout the entire year?
• Nearly all year round?
• Sporadically
• Based on puppy waiting list?

DAYNAKIN: We have between 1-2 litters per year and work off an application process and waiting list.

DOG UP: What maintenance does a dog from your kennel receive? Food, bath frequency, haircut frequency, walking time, etc?

DAYNAKIN: Our dogs are maintained as housedogs and treated as such.  Routine (weekly) grooming includes nail trim, bath, teeth brushing and anything else needed.  Our dogs have access to large securely fenced areas for romping time and exercise.

DOG UP: At what age do you deliver the puppies?

DAYNAKIN: 8 weeks

DOG UP: In which conditions do you usually deliver your puppies? (With parasites removed, vaccinated, pedigree, microchip, tale cut, ears cut, responsibility contract, castration commitment, good health certificate, warranty

DAYNAKIN: Puppies are sold with vaccines and wormings as appropriate for age, microchips, vet & CERF checked, AKC registration and pedigree, contract, health guarentee, return agreement and altering for companion (non-show) dogs.

DOG UP: WhDaynakinich recommendations do you usually deliver to the future owners or to those who are considering a dog from your breed?

DAYNAKIN: To do research carefully to make sure the breed is appropriate for the purchasers lifestyle and budget; to find out what to look for in a puppy and adult, to visit many breeders and visit dog shows prior to purchase.

DOG UP: Why do you recommend acquiring a puppy from that breed?

DAYNAKIN: A Dane is a good choice for a family who wants a large, indoor dog with a moderate exercise requirement.  However, they are not suitable for all lifestyles and budgets so careful consideration should be given prior to purchase.

DOG UP: How does a Great Danes interact with children?

DAYNAKIN: Generally, well. However, first time Dane owners should wait until younger children are older before getting a Dane.  Their shear size can be a problem around small kids.

Really Thanks very much Georgia Hymmen for your time and to share your experience and dogs with us!
