The grooming and upkeep of a Dachshund Coat depends primarily upon the type of Coat the Dachshund possesses. There are three main types of Dachshund Coat - the short-haired, the wire-haired and the long-haired Dachshund Coat.
Depending on a Dachshunds Coat type, the grooming regime can differ quite considerably. For example, the long-haired Dachshund's Coat requires daily brushing to ensure that any loose hair is removed and that the Coat does not become matted. Fortunately, this is an easy task if a routine is carried out on a daily basis.
The wire-haired Dachshund's Coat generally requires professional trimming twice a year. This helps to keep the Dachshunds wiry Coat in the best possible condition, as well as making sure that the Coat grows properly and is as healthy as can be.
Unlike the previous two types of Dachshund, the short-haired Dachshund requires a regular rubdown with a damp cloth. This keeps the breed's short Coat clean and removes any dirt that may become dried into the Coat. Furthermore, as this Dachshund's Coat should be primarily shiny, this helps to maintain this Coat characteristic fantastically.
