When choosing the proper breed according to our preferences and needs, we always think of a type of dog that we actually like for its appearance. In this sense, the amazing Curly Coated Retriever is one of the most adorable and loyal breeds you can find. Even though many can think of it as a late development of the traditional Retriever breeds, it is believed that the Curly Coated Retriever is one of the first ones to ever appear. England is considered to be its native land, where it was used of course for retrieving activities and as an excellent gun dog. There are many breeds that may have contributed to its birth among which the Close-Curled English Water Dog, the Old Water Spaniel, the Newfoundland, the Labrador, the Poodle and the Irish Water Spaniel are to be found.
With a life expectancy of eight to twelve years and with average measurements of around 25 to 27 inches tall and 65 to 80 pounds of weight, this medium to large sized dog is of a unique kind. It stands out for its highly curled coat that can be found in many different colors. This tight coat was initially meant to protect it from the water and cold weathers. Its body is quite similar to the one of a regular Labrador, with strong legs, a wide neck and a well proportioned head. The ears are small and the eyes are normally dark.
As most Retrievers, the Curly Coated Retriever is a great companion that is nowadays chosen by loving families wanting a loyal friend. They are also really intelligent dogs with a pleasant attitude towards training. They are also quite emotional animals that enjoy permanent human company. They require lots of exercise and leaving them alone for long periods of time may be dangerous. They are active and outgoing dogs that enjoy outdoors and that can get along with other animals if properly socialized.
