Chow Chows Diet

Many dog breeds are able to be fed a varied Diet, including kibble and canned foods of any brand. However, the Chow Chows Diet needs to be more tailored as this breed of dog doesn't have as robust of a dietary system as many other breeds of dog.

Especially when the Chow Chow is in its infancy, 'little and often' is the general rule that should be obeyed. Two large meals a day are not suited to the Chow Chow and they much prefer to eat small amounts of food at regular intervals throughout the day.

It is generally recommended that a freshly produced, homemade food is best for the Chow Chow's dietary requirements. Taking care to ensure all the necessary vitamins are included in the Diet, most types of meats, including fish, mixed with vegetables, wheat or soy should produce an appropriate food for the Chow Chow. However, as this food will be fresh, it is not feasible to leave it out all day for the Chow Chow to feed on in case it attracts vermin. Therefore, to meet their requirements Chow Chow's should be slowly weaned onto a small amount of kibble. This ensures that if they are left alone in the home for any period of time, kibble can be left for them to eat and will not go stale or attract vermin.
