When it comes to talking about Labrador retriever breed, there are some basic things to say. These dogs are known for their tenderness and affection towards human beings and other animals.
The most recognizable of this breed are the yellow or the black Labrador retriever but in the last few years another coat color has been added to the breed: chocolate. The dogs that happen to have this color in their coat look simply like a piece of chocolate candy: they are sweet, tender, fluffy and totally lovable. If you are willing to have one, read this basic information we have to give to you, but please put your sweet-toothed instincts aside and avoid trying to eat them!
There are also some silver and white specimens that can be considered Labrador retrievers but are disqualified to participate as show dogs.
In this sense, until recently the chocolate colored dogs were not considered pure Labrador retrievers, though this situation has now changed and so might happen with the other two colors not yet recognized.
This breed is believed to have been originated in the Canadian province of Newfoundland in the eighteenth century approximately. This is a reason why it is one of the most popular breeds in Canada and the United States nowadays. Because of its great sense of responsibility, commitment, obedience and loyalty, these dogs are useful for a huge variety of tasks in which humans are constantly counting with their help.
Labrador retrievers are usually a very fit breed since they are very active, love to run and play with humans and other animals. They are recognizable for their medium to large sized bodies and in this sense they tend to get a bit overweight as they grow up.
They are larger than taller but this is no impediment for them to have an active life.
