The Chinook is a rare American sled pulling dog. Working in cold temperatures, the Chinooks thick fur helps to keep it sufficiently warm. However, many owners buy their Chinook Clothing, such as a coat or body warmer, to ensure their Chinook is as warm as possible.
Freely available, Chinook coats consist of a thin, lightweight layer of waterproof material on the outside, with the inside being heavily insulated with fleece.
Many Chinook owners leave their Chinook's coats on whilst the dog is sleeping, especially in the winter months, to help keep as much heat as possible in the Chinook's body. As Chinook coats are designed specifically for the breed, they do not restrict movement, regardless of whether they dog is exercising or sleeping.
Further to a Chinook coat, another popular piece of Chinook Clothing is the fleeced harness. Used instead of a regular leather harness (that can chafe and cause skin conditions), a fleeced harness is a padded harness that has a thin layer of insulated material on the underside that rests directly upon the Chinook's body. This, similar to a Chinook coat, helps to keep warmth within the Chinooks body but also ensurse that the Chinook's coat stays in the best possible condition.
