Many of us may not entirely know this breed, but you can be sure that a Chinese Crested dog is not a dog to forget about. These impressive and certainly outstanding dogs are believed to be native not from China but from Africa. There are some registries that have also found the presence of these dogs among the Aztecs. Of course, they became more popular when Chinese trade took several specimens to the far Eastern lands and added their final characteristics. They were used to keep rats and other small animals away from the products that were being traded. They are nowadays considered to be extremely rare dogs that mark your social status. They count with recognition from the AKC, the CKC, the FCI, the NKC and many others.
The Chinese Crested dog features a truly peculiar and unique appearance. While some of these specimens are hairless except for their head, tail and feet, some others belong to the Powder Puff variety and count with a longer layer of hair that spreads more evenly through the body. They are small animals measuring around 12 inches tall and up to ten pounds of weight. They have super delicate legs, a narrow body and a pointy head with a noticeable dark nose and strong muzzle. The eyes are round and dark while the ears may be large or medium sized.
The Chinese Crested dogs are normally taken as company dogs. They are great for apartments since they don't require a large deal of exercise. They are sweet and loyal towards their masters and especially towards children. As most small dogs, the Chinese Crested breed may be sometimes suspicious of strangers and in order to prevent complications with other animals, they should be socialized at early ages. They do not bark and are truly intelligent and playful dogs.
